In my survey I asked 20 people in my science class, 10 boys and 10 girls. The average age of the girls is 14.2 years old. The girls split fact or fiction evenly with 5 going to fact and 5 going to fiction and none to unsure. The guys however had 30% in the fact category, 50% in the fiction category and 20% in the unsure option. Overall, 40% of the class said that the myth is true, 50% said it was fake and 10% said that they weren’t sure.

This myth came from a YouTube video where a group of friends put some unpopped popcorn in between a few cell phones and started to call them. The theory is the energy that a cell phone emits will excite the water in popcorn enough to pop it like a microwave does. The only problem with that is if a cell phone emitted that much energy, it would burn you when you hold it, and mess up your brain. The final answer to the myth is FICTION! I got all of my information from 2 websites, http://www.wired.com/underwire/2008/06/cellphones-cant/ and from http://www.snopes.com/science/cookegg.asp
